Rely has agreed to provide project solution for a joint venture between Technip Energies and John Cockerill

Technip Energies and John Cockerill have formed a joint project which launched in May of 2023. The focus of this project is centred on green hydrogen and recently Rely agreed to help with this project and with Power-to-X projects which consist of a 100MW capacity or higher.

The plan that Rely has put forwards, uses a standardised approach which utilises both Technip’s and John Cockerill’s technologies and expertise. The project will be taking place at the company’s headquarters, in Belgium. This company has been dubbed an ‘asset light’ and is owned almost equally between the two companies. Technip owns 60% whilst John Cockerill owns 40%.

The companies commented on the arrangement they have created. The CEO of John Cockerill Hydrogen, Raphael Tilot, said the project ‘will combine OEM and PEC industrial strength.’ The John Cockerill CEO, François Michel, added ‘that the joint venture constitutes a new way of approaching the green hydrogen market for John Cockerill.’ Continuing, Michel said, that Rely ‘would compliment John Cockerill’s alkaline electrolyser offering, enabling it to further develop all the technologies included in a green hydrogen production facility.’

Finally, the parent companies mentioned that ‘Rely will provide end-to-end large-scale solutions from pre-final investment decision (FID) services including technical and financial advisory through to technologies, project execution and operation and maintenance.’

The CEO of Rely, Damien Eyriès, commented, “Rely exists to bridge the green electron—molecule gap. We are dedicated to building solutions making green hydrogen and power-to-X production at scale, accessible, certain, safe and affordable. Specifically, we are targeting an important reduction in levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH). Rely enters the market at the right moment and we are looking forward to presenting our integrated solutions in detail soon.”

CEO of Technip Energies, Arnaud Pieton, added, “Rely was born out of commitment to make green hydrogen and Power-to-X a feasible low-carbon alternative for industrial-scale applications. We created Rely after carefully listening to our customers’ needs and forming strong convictions about the way to break the industrial and cost barriers associated with large-scale green hydrogen.”
