Kobelco Compressors America Breaks Ground on Houston Service Shop Expansion

La Porte, TX – November 1, 2024 – Kobelco Compressors America, Inc. (KCA) officially broke ground on the expansion of its Houston Service Shop (HSS) on Friday, November 1, 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony, held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., marked the start of a 33,000- square-foot addition designed to strengthen KCA’s service capabilities for customers. The ceremony began with remarks from Peter Venizelos, Head of KCA AMSE, who acknowledged the hard work of the After Sales and After Service Engineering teams, particularly the skilled technicians and staff at the facility. “After eight years of successful operation, this expansion reflects the dedication of our team. The new space will enable us to deliver additional services and capabilities locally in Texas and globally, supporting the growth of our repair business,” he noted.

The expanded Houston Service Shop will feature enhanced infrastructure, including six compressor overhaul stations, two drive-through loading bays, an extruder overhaul station, and specialized areas for hydro blasting, non-destructive testing (NDT), and painting. Additional upgrades include climate-controlled storage, parts inventory services, designated customer working areas, expanded conference space for training, and new 30-ton and 50-ton cranes to support increased operational demands.

Following Venizelos’s remarks, La Porte Mayor Rick Helton shared his appreciation for KCA’s contributions to the city, stating, “It was fantastic to tour the facility and see the great work being done here. We are grateful to Kobelco for choosing La Porte and for the positive impact they’re making in our community.” KCA’s President, Terry Murata, provided an overview of Kobelco’s legacy, tracing its origins back to its manufacturing facility in Japan in 1915 and highlighting its growth into a globally recognized brand in compressor technology. “We deeply appreciate Mayor Helton and the City of La Porte for their continued support, which has been essential in making this expansion possible,” Murata expressed. This investment underscores KCA’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality aftermarket services. The expanded HSS facility will offer a full range of technical support, spare parts, field service, engineering solutions, and repair services for both Kobelco and non-Kobelco screw compressors. With an experienced team of engineers and technicians, KCA’s Houston Service Shop is prepared to meet the evolving needs of its customers around the world.

Following the presentation, the groundbreaking ceremony took place behind the HSS facility, with participants including representatives from the City of La Porte, Braband Building Systems (the general contractor), KCA, and KCA’s parent company, Kobe Steel USA. Together, they marked the occasion with golden shovels in front of the Kobelco excavator. After the formalities, attendees gathered for lunch inside the shop, providing an opportunity to strengthen connections and continue discussions among stakeholders.
