The development of off-grid ALK hydrogen production technologies
The development of off-grid ALK hydrogen production technologies
The major obstacle to increase the application of green hydrogen to reduce CO2 is the cost. ALK electrolyzer has the potential to produce the green hydrogen with renewable energy at low cost. However at this point most ALK electrolyzer in the market has some problems, such as low current density , high DC power consumption and long cool start time. Cost of 1000m3/h electrolyzer is high (about 2-3million dollars). And for a large project (such as >100MW) ALK is still difficult to be powered by solar or wind power directly with out significant size of battery or connected to grid due to the slow response and narrow power ranges. In this report, the development of advanced ALK technologies with low DC consumption 4.0kwh/m3, good stability for reverse current, short cool start time and examples of PV direct drive ALK without battery will be present.
