Solving the Midstream: Enabling Hydrogen Market Liftoff Through Cryo-compressed Hydrogen
Hydrogen distribution currently contributes more to the final delivered cost than hydrogen production does, making it impossible for clean hydrogen to compete with diesel in demanding applications like remote power and heavy-duty trucking. In order to enable liftoff of the clean hydrogen market, the cost of delivery must come down. While this is not feasible with current distribution methods - gaseous hydrogen and liquid hydrogen - cryo-compressed hydrogen represents a more efficient way to store and distribute hydrogen. Cryo-compression saves 65% on densification costs relative to liquefaction while achieving 135% higher density than 500 bar, enabling cost-effective delivery and allowing clean hydrogen to achieve cost-parity with diesel for generators and heavy-duty trucks.
