The Hydrogen Value Chain: Opportunities, Challenges, and Potential Solutions
The development of a hydrogen economy to support the global energy transition will require the integration of multiple technologies. These include production of carbon-free electricity (i.e., wind, solar, hydro, nuclear), electricity distribution and storage, conversion of electricity to molecules (i.e., hydrogen), and the developing end-use applications for these fuels. There are also new technical challenges associated with the new hydrogen value chain. Wind turbines and other inverter based renewable power sources have relied on grid connections to provide frequency signals, but future Power to H2 projects are contemplating systems that are completely off-grid, requiring these systems to have new capabilities. This session will walk through the hydrogen value chain, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and potential solutions.
