Leadership Roundtable: Surviving Beyond Subsidy: Building a CCS Business Model That Lasts
At present, governments around the world are supporting private investment in carbon capture projects through various means - one of which is subsidies to provide direct payments or tax relief to entities which undertake projects in the arena. This has done well to drive project momentum, as companies can now connect business & financial objectives to the goal of tackling climate change. However, many subsidy programs come with an expiration date, and/or rely on administrations around the globe to renew/continue to support these initiatives. This brings risk to the entities undertaking these projects. How will we drive the cost down--and learnings up--within those policy expiration dates so that the CCUS industry can operate in a financially viable manner into the future? The panelists will debate and discuss mechanisms for this to occur/what needs to happen if these projects are to move forward after government support fades.
