Edward Rios

Commercialization Executive, Office of Technology Transitions, U.S. Department of Energy
Edward Rios currently serves as a Commercialization Executive for the hydrogen sector in the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT). He leads external engagements with clean hydrogen industry participants who are seeking the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) assistance with their hydrogen technology commercialization efforts. His expertise is centered around finding commercialization solutions for technology developers that have achieved a pilot or demonstration scale. He also manages OTT’s university programs where OTT focuses on developing a diverse workforce for our country’s next generation of technology commercialization professionals. He serves as OTT’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) lead where he represents OTT in many DOE DEIA initiatives. Finally, he is a proud and active member of the Community for the Advancement of Latinos at the U.S. Department of Energy (CALDOE), a DOE employee resource group. Mr. Rios has over 25 years of professional experience with expertise in production engineering, process engineering, and innovative energy technology finance. His career began as a production/process engineer in the specialty chemicals industry. Shortly thereafter, he worked as an energy auditor where he provided energy efficiency recommendations to small and medium sized manufacturing facilities located throughout his home state of Florida. In 2004, he served as a technical consultant in DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy followed by assignments with DOE’s Office of Information and Business Management Systems, the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs, the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV, and DOE’s Loan Program’s Office (LPO). Mr. Rios joined the federal service while working in LPO in 2010. There, he led the financial analysis of loan guarantee applications received under the Nuclear, Fossil, Renewable and Efficient Energy, Tribal Energy, and Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing programs. He was also a key member of LPO’s outreach and business development activities. Mr. Rios received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering, both from the University of Florida.
